Self-Archiving and Repository Policy

The Journal of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (JMID) supports the broad dissemination and long-term accessibility of scholarly research. In accordance with its open-access principles, JMID permits authors to deposit and share versions of their manuscripts in recognized repositories and other appropriate scholarly platforms, subject to the conditions outlined below.

JMID supports responsible self-archiving while maintaining the integrity of the peer-review and published scholarly record.

1. Preprints

Authors may post their manuscripts on recognized preprint servers or institutional repositories before submission to JMID.

Posting a manuscript as a preprint does not, by itself, constitute prior publication and does not prevent subsequent submission to JMID, provided that the manuscript is clearly identified as a preprint.

Authors should disclose the existence of a preprint during submission and provide the preprint DOI or persistent identifier, where available.

After publication in JMID, authors are encouraged to update the preprint record with the DOI and a link to the final published article.

2. Submitted Manuscripts

Authors may deposit the submitted version of their manuscript in an institutional repository, subject repository, or other recognized scholarly repository after submission to JMID.

Such deposition must not misrepresent the manuscript as having been peer reviewed or accepted for publication.

Authors are encouraged to clearly identify the deposited version as a submitted manuscript and to update the repository record when the manuscript progresses through the publication process.

3. Manuscripts Under Peer Review

Authors may continue to make the submitted version available in a repository while the manuscript is under peer review.

The deposited manuscript should be clearly identified as a manuscript under review or submitted version, where applicable.

Authors should not represent a manuscript as accepted or published before JMID has formally communicated the relevant editorial decision.

4. Accepted Manuscripts

Following acceptance for publication, authors may deposit the accepted manuscript (Author Accepted Manuscript, AAM) in an institutional repository, subject repository, or other recognized scholarly repository.

The accepted manuscript is the version that has been accepted for publication following peer review but before final typesetting and publication formatting by JMID.

Authors should clearly identify the deposited file as an accepted manuscript and should provide the DOI of the final published article when it becomes available.

5. Published Version / Version of Record

Because JMID is an open-access journal, the final published article (Version of Record) is freely accessible online.

Authors are permitted to share and deposit the Version of Record in:

• institutional repositories;

• subject repositories;

• academic and research platforms;

• personal or institutional websites;

• scholarly networking platforms;

• research profiles;

• social media; and

• other lawful channels that support scholarly communication.

Where the Version of Record is shared, authors should retain the article's citation information, DOI, copyright and licensing information, and should provide a link to the official JMID publication whenever possible.

6. Creative Commons License

JMID publishes articles under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) License, unless otherwise stated for a particular article.

Authors and other users must comply with the applicable Creative Commons license when sharing, adapting, or otherwise reusing published material.

Appropriate attribution must be provided, including citation of the original article and acknowledgment of the applicable license.

7. No Embargo

JMID does not impose an embargo period on the self-archiving of manuscripts.

Authors may therefore deposit permitted versions of their work without waiting for a specified embargo period.

8. Repository and Platform Requirements

Authors may use reputable institutional, subject-based, disciplinary, national, or general scholarly repositories.

Authors should ensure that deposited versions:

• are accurately identified by version;

• retain the appropriate bibliographic information;

• include the article DOI when available;

• do not falsely imply peer review or acceptance when these have not occurred; and

• comply with applicable copyright, licensing, privacy, and ethical requirements.

9. Linking and Version Control

To maintain a clear and reliable scholarly record, authors are encouraged to link earlier versions of their manuscript to the final JMID publication whenever technically possible.

After publication, repository records should preferably include:

"This article has been published in the Journal of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (JMID). The Version of Record is available at the official journal website."

The DOI of the published article should be included wherever available.

10. Preservation and Permanent Access

JMID is committed to the long-term preservation and accessibility of its published content.

The journal participates in Portico, supporting the preservation of the journal's scholarly content and contributing to the continuity and long-term accessibility of the published record.

Self-archiving and repository deposition complement, but do not replace, the journal's official preservation and archival arrangements.

11. Author Responsibility

Authors are responsible for ensuring that deposited manuscripts do not contain confidential information, personal information, copyrighted third-party material, or other content that they are not authorized to distribute.

Authors should also ensure that repository deposits comply with applicable institutional, ethical, legal, and funder requirements.

12. Summary of Permitted Self-Archiving

JMID encourages authors to make their research as widely accessible as possible while maintaining accurate version identification and links to the official published record.
